Chapter 2: Birds of a Feather

"W-what?! Y-you think he's doing that again?!"

"What else would he be recalling us for?! A f**king tea party?! Look, I'm gonna warn the others to not pick up, because there is no way that I'm doing another season of that crap!"

"W-well... who knows? It c-could be a fresh start...?"

"Aw, don't tell me that you're actually going... You're asking to die for a cause not worth fighting for!"

"B-but he's still our friend, and I will not abandon a friend in need who's been missing for five years."

"Speaking of which, you found all of the CCC yet?"

"No, not yet. Though I can push my own needs to be after my friend's."

"There's no other way to convince you otherwise?"

"N-no! My mind has been made up!"

"...Tim?"

Tim

"Gah... what in the world is she thinking?! She's going to get herself killed!" I throw my hands up into the air in frustration. Justin's already got Est by his finger, and knowing the others, they would all concede in one way or another. I put my phone back in my pocket as a towel is brushed onto my head. "Way to be a gentleman of the ages, chief." A familiar voice pipes up from behind me, sarcastic, yet reassuring. I turn to my right shoulder to notice my understudy. "Jyn? Why are you listening into my conversations? Those are private moments that I should have to myself!" I say, irritably. Jyn doesn't pay any mind to my comments and brings up some medical gear. "You're badly wounded from the last shot." He says with a hinge of surprise. "You're not as focused as you usually are..." My eyes flare up at his observations. "Look, if you want, you can take over for tonight. I need time to myself." Shocked, Jyn makes some distance between us. "You okay, Tim? You're not as abrasive as you usually are." I get up from my chair, still grimacing from the chemicals in my system. "I'm going to step out for a bit." Jyn looks at me with a confused expression. "Stepping out, sir? For how long?"

"However long the new season of TTL lasts."

Immediately after I utter those three letters, time almost seems to stop, with everyone in the immediate area pausing what they are currently doing to take a good look at me. “Yeah, Justin called me earlier, and he was all cryptic about it, so I’m guessing he’s gonna surprise us with a new season of TTL.” Whispers now overtake the air of the room, with the general murmur of old names and news now taking up the general attention. “Hey, look, just hold the for-“Turning around to look at Jyn, I see his mouth agape at my new revelation. “Y-you’re going back for another season of TTL?!” He squeaks. “Yeah…?” I say, scratching my head. “I know that our contracts expired, but Est’s already been signed off, so Anna would follow suit, then TG, so I really don’t have a choice but to go.” Jyn reverts back to his normal self, now contemplating the new situation. “So… about your leave…” He says with a very nervous tone. “If I die, which I’m not planning to do, then just take over. That’s your job, ain’t it?!” I say, making him react with all sorts of complaints about my condition. “With the acid from the meth lab shoot earlier, I really don’t think you should go until you’ve seen a doctor, Tim.” I nod my head in agreement. “And that’s exactly why I’m going. Est can patch me right up!” Jyn facepalms. “That’s not what I meant! The pain may subside, but until you get those chemical out of your system, they are still a danger to your very life!” I groan at his nagging, now turning for the exit door. “Look, I’m going, and there’s nothing that you can do to change it.”

“Wait! You haven’t even told me why! You seemed against it, but why the sudden change of heart?!”

“Three reasons. One, Justin ain’t hosting a season of TTL without me. Two, I need to finally win a season.”

“And three?”

“I need to kill him so that he doesn’t win!”

“...you're an idiot, Tim."

"Hey, somebody's gotta do it."

"What, killing Justin, or being the village idiot?"

"I'm just gonna pretend that I didn't hear that last comment."
